There are broadband internet connections in all LOAS apartments. The connection is not charged separately but is included in the rent. The most important requirement that keeps the net services working is that everybody follows the rules of usage to the letter.

LNET
Lnet is LOAS’s own broadband local area network (LAN) in Skinnarila and in the new apartments in the city centre area.

All students are entitled to using Lnet. The net is connected to the Internet through Funet, the net of the ministry of education.

There is a person responsible for the net in each Lnet site, who maintains the net. He / she also advices in questions related to the net. He / she does not do any installations etc. to the computers of the inhabitants. The information on how to contact the Lnet representative can be found on the notice board in each building and on the Lnet website. The administrating and technical maintaining of Lnet is done entirely by the inhabitants of LOAS apartments which guarantees the continuous competent maintenance and an affordable net fee.

The use of the network requires the strict following of the network rules. Any misuse of the net results in shutting the interface down and losing the right to use the net. It is also good to pay attention to the copyright matters to avoid surprising consequences.

Lnet is built by using the latest technology and the connection is very fast from every apartment. All you need in your computer is a net adapter and you are ready to connect. Very easy and very fast.

SONERA INTERNET CABLE
Sonera Internet Cable is a very fast fixed broadband internet connection.

LOAS offers Sonera Internet Cable for inhabitants living in apartments not connected to the Lnet.

Additional services are paid directly to Sonera by the user him- / herself.

To use the Sonera Internet Cable, you connect your computer via cable modem to the antenna plug. You can use the TV and the Sonera Internet Cable simultaneously. Easy and very fast.

There are no representatives in Sonera Internet Cable sites.

HOW TO GET A SONERA INTERNET CABLE
If you live in LOAS-properties, where is no Lnet-connection, there should be already a cable modem in your flat. You have signed a service contract (Sonera) along your tenancy agreement. LOAS will send the service contract to Sonera and they will open the connection in a few days. The tenant must check the MAC-ID of the modem is same as the MAC-ID in the service contract. The tenant must provide an RJ45-cable, if it is not at the apartment.

When you move out, your contract with Sonera will end as well as your tenancy agreement. The cable modem must be left to the apartment otherwise you will be charged 250 €.

Connections to the world and to the educational institutes

Sonera Internet Cable is intended for efficient basic use of the internet. The connection is reliable and fast.

There is no actual fixed connection to the nets of educational institutes but all open services are available. For example emails can be read from mail.lut.fi. The instructions for using other than browser based mail reading can be found there. A terminal connection with SSH is also possible.
